New Students attend Orientation Online

Zetech University today hosted a live Zoom session on the Varsity’s Youtube channel to welcome new students who have enrolled for the May 2020 semester. The engaging session was designed to serve as an online orientation for the new learners and enlighten them on what to expect from Zetech, as the education world adapts to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The session was facilitated by University Registrar Mr. Peter Osumba who celebrated the students for making the bold step to pursue quality higher education in this period. On invitation to address the students, Deputy Vice Chancellor- Academics, Research, Extension and Student Affairs Dr. Alice Njuguna noted that the University is committed to providing an exceptional experience to the students and guardians to ensure they reap the full benefits of blended learning. “I appreciate all our new students for choosing Zetech and making the decision to invent their future. I also laud the faculty led by the Registrar Academics for facilitating this important sessions and implementing an efficient blended learning experience for all our learners.” She said.

Echoing her sentiments, Dean, School of Business Professor Peter Kibas, welcomed the students, appreciating them for choosing to join a leading private university in Kenya. He said, “You are joining a great family at Zetech University and we welcome you to enjoy a blessed semester. We are committed to overcome any challenge that comes up because we are determined to empower students to invent their future.” He further thanked guardians and partners for walking this journey with the University and noted that the spirit of entrepreneurship will be passed to the new learners as they commence their studies.

Schools and Departments

The orientation also incorporated presentations from heads of departments from the: School of Business and Economics, Faculty of ICT and Engineering, Department of Hospitality and Tourism, Education Arts and Media, Arts and Design, who assured students of an uninterrupted learning experience and called on them to remain focused even as they study at home. Each department shared the dynamics and roles of their department and encouraged learners to contact them should they experience any challenges.
With various students enquiring on accessing classes online, Director of the Zetech Digital School (ZDS) Gladys Wangari made a compelling presentation on how to use the Digital School to enjoy the online learning experience. Her session was boosted by guidance from representatives from the ICT centre who took the learners through logging in and using the student portal and navigating the online system. The ICT Manager reminded learners that the University had collaborated with partners to provide them with free 10 GB data bundles to facilitate their learning.

Code of Conduct

To provide a holistic presentation of the Institution, the Student Affairs department led by Dean Elizabeth Muhia shared on the student code of conduct, empasising the office’s role in supporting the students as they study. She highlighted the Varsity’s excelling sports teams and various clubs that enhance the Zetech Experience and serves to develop students’ talents and skills. She added that discipline is taken seriously at Zetech, to ensure students acquire the necessary like skills required, stay out of trouble and adapt to the university dress code matrix to prepare them for the professional and entrepreneurial world.
