University holds successful Online Orientation

Zetech University held a successful orientation for new students joining the July intake through a session broadcasted live on the institution’s Facebook page. The intriguing session was designed to equip the over 1900 government- sponsored students placed to joined Zetech with an understanding of how the University operates and how they will go about online learning. The University prides itself in providing some of the best courses to study in Kenya.

The orientation was moderated by Corporate Affairs Director Moses Maina who engaged a team of the University’s management to welcome the students and talk to them about what it takes to make the most of their campus experience. He emphasized that the University is providing 10GB bundles per month to all students to facilitate online learning.

Speaking to the students about admission and academics, Registrar Academics Peter Osumba charged the students to take up the online learning system adopted in the wake of COVID-19 that has affected higher education sector. “I am glad to welcome our new students and encourage them to take their studies seriously. We will provide training on using the Zetech Digital School which is the platform we are using to provide training during this period.” Osumba said, adding details on learning assignments, CATs and online exams. He also advised students who wish to change their course or transfer to Zetech to contact the Admissions team through admissions@zetech.ac.ke for assistance.

On his part, Prof Peter Kibas, Dean, School of Business and Economics and Professor of Entrepreneurship gave the viewers a run-through of the Universities’ schools and departments which include the School of Business and Economics, Faculty of ICT and Engineering, Department of Hospitality and Tourism, Department of Social Sciences and the Department of Media Arts and Design. He congratulated the students on promotion to University and shared tips on how to navigate and succeed in university.

After the students were educated on the schools and faculties, the University DVC in charge of Academics, Research and Student Affairs Dr. Alice Njuguna who highlighted the Student Affairs department that handles sports and club activities to build students’ life skills and better prepare them for the world. She further emphasized Zetech’s focus on innovation with innovators such as Anthony Muthungu and Fabrice Mugabe who have developed solutions in ICT to handle current challenges gripping the world, including COVID-19.

The climax of the session was a moving speech by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene who took time to appreciate students and guardians for choosing Zetech. He encouraged students to start their online learning with confidence, noting that those who wish to wait for face-to-face learning are still welcome to join the University once the phased opening by the Ministry of Education is implemented. He said, “We are a personalized university and give attention to students’ issues to ensure quality service. We are customer-focused and allow students to grow holistically to become the best versions of themselves.” He ended by advising students to interact with their peers, sharpen their skills and grow the talents.
