Varsity football side collects points in weekend games
The University sports teams had a busy weekend fighting for additional points in their ongoing tournaments played across the country. In a heated match at the Ruiru stadium, the Varsity men’s football side Zetech Titans silenced Magana Flowers an impressive 4-0, in the Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) Division two games.
The gents endured the rain as the match progressed to claim a deserved win that denied their opponents any points granting bragging rights ahead of upcoming battles. The first half of the game saw Amimo David kick off the scores with a 24th minute goal; Obiero Brandon completing an additional goal before the second half, to earn his team a 2-0 lead at half time. Team Captain Duol Steven started the second half on a high, securing a goal in the 54th minute before Paride Iko took it home with a goal before the 90 minute mark.
Commenting on his team’s performance, Team Coach Ben Kitolo praised the Titans for holding fort despite the rain to win the intriguing game, “The boys played very well, showing a lot of character and focus. They outplayed Magana in every aspect throughout the 90 minutes, and I am proud of them.” said Kitolo.
In the Universities and Colleges Football League(UCFL) action that went down on Sunday, the Titans surrendered to a 1-0 loss to Kabete Technical before recovering with a 1-1 draw against Thika Medical during the second match of the day.
The drive towards building talent through sports continues to endear the University to Kenyans with many looking to join the teams to build their skills while enjoying quality education. The University provides scholarships for very talented students who meet the academics requirements to pursue a course while playing for the institution.
