Varsity Hosts Samburu Girls Foundation
On 21st March, Zetech University was privileged to host a delightful team of 19 girls from the Samburu Girls foundation in collaboration with Huawei Technologies to give them a tour of our campus facilities and share with them the requirements to access quality higher education.
This foundation was started in 2011 by Dr. Josephine Kulea to rescue young girls from early marriages, rape, sexual abuse and female genital mutilation (FGM). So far, she has rescued over 1,183 girls and continues to educate and empower them by advocating against harmful cultural practices. Her work was recognized by President Obama during his visit in Kenya.
The Foundation has three main pillars; Rescue and Reconciliation, Education and Community outreach. Under the Education pillar, the university was approached to facilitate the girls in a tour to the university where they were taken through the various courses available and advised on what to do according to their area of interest.
During the visit, the guests accompanied by their two facilitators visited the Engineering workshop, the Library, Students kitchen training unit, the media studio and finally the auditorium where they interacted with Assistant Registrar, Enrollment Catherine Chege. She mentioned the importance of choosing a career one loves and lauded them for their commitment to education despite various cultural challenges.

“At Zetech, we are passionate about access to education for all target groups across the country. We believe in nurturing strong and capable women in the society and we are grateful to Huawei for allowing us to engage with the girls.” said Catherine. She went on to encourage them to join Zetech University that is one of the most affordable private universities offering marketable courses as she gifted them with notebooks and pens as a motivation to progress with their studies.
