Varsity Ushers in New Students in Style
It is said that an expert in anything was once a beginner. This stands true for the newest students at Zetech University who enjoyed an enlightening orientation session at the Varsity main campus. The session saw the University admissions and enrollment team verify the new learners’ documentation and educate them on what to expect as they start their campus journey.
The event kicked off with a welcoming team who guided students and guardians on the plans for the day and responded to their unanswered queries. Commenting on the admission process, Peter Osumba, Deputy Registrar in charge of University enrollment and advancement noted that the process is critical for every new student as it ensures the trainees are aware of what to expect from the University as well as what the institution expects of every Zetech student.
“We are excited to admit our new students who registered for our September 2018 intake; we are glad that students and their guardians came out in large numbers to learn more about their University and interact with our different Heads of Department.” said Osumba.
The hundreds of learners then proceeded to an informative session at the University auditorium where different departments Heads took time to interact with the students. The session kicked off with an insightful presentation by the Dean, School of Business and Economics Prof. Peter Kibas who talked to the participants about the Varsity structure and what to expected from the different departments including the University Council and Board of Management. He further charged the new learners to make use of every opportunity on campus to grow and become holistic graduates, “I am pleased to welcome our newest students and assure them that they have made the right choice in joining Zetech University. We are ready to offer quality training and provide a memorable learning experience.” Prof. Kibas added.
Thereafter, the Heads of Department in charge of ICT and Engineering, Business and Economics, Media and Communication, Hospitality and Social Sciences shared their expectations of the trainees and advised them on making the most of their University experience. This was followed by a presentation by University librarian Moses Kijugu who talked about the Varsity’s library facility, available e-resources as well as working hours deigned to ensure students have a fulfilling academic journey.
On his part, Ag. Registrar Academics Moses Maina took time to welcome the students and challenged them to take their studies seriously in order to effectively invent their future, “Zetech is committed to offering each one of you quality education and a rich learning experience. We have availed the facilities and resources you need to excel in your studies.” Moses said.
To those who were curious about talent development, the arts and sports, the University Dean, Student Affairs Elizabeth Muhia highlighted the various activities under the University’s talent and development programme designed to nurture and develop students’ talents and secure for them opportunities to showcase their skills.
Additionally, she spoke to the learners about grooming as captured in the Varsity dress code manual and emphasised that discipline is expected of every student.
