Zetech Karate Squad Qualifies for East African Games
The team, coming in second after Kenyatta University, excelled in the Nairobi conference games,bringing home 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal in the semifinal level under the Karate–KUMITEand KATA individual and team games to qualify for the national fete that took place in Bungoma County.
Coach Martin Ndegwa celebrated the win with his side, noting that this was no mean fete for the growing team,
“We have worked hard to get here and we are elated to have qualified for the East African games. We look forward to the action as we train intensively and participate in other competitive outings.” He said
The tournaments also saw the Zetech Taekwondo squad battle seasoned teams to secure 4th place while the ladies side came out 7th in the national competition in the tough battle played at Kibabii University.
Lauding the team, Varsity Sports Coordinator Alfred Muli said that the institution is keen on talent development through sports and remains committed in ensuring the team enjoy exposure through competitive games, “The Zetech martial arts teams continue to amaze us with their commitment to grow and excel, and this win is a welcome addition to their continued success.”
Speaking about sports development, Moses Maina, in the country, Executive Director in charge of Corporate Affairs noted the critical role sports place as a source of income and way to market the country. “Sports is an incredible platform for young people to not only share their skills with the world, but earn an income and make money for themselves. With such wins, the Zetech sports teams will be celebrate across the continent and beyond.” He said
The EA games are set to take place in December this year.
