Zetech Sparks clinch first win of the year
The action packed weekend saw the Zetech University ladies football team overpower opponents Kayole Starlets to secure a deserved 4-3 win over in a heated Kenya Women premier League match played on Sunday. This was a welcome recovery from their last 2 game played this January, winning their first game of the year.
The game kicked off on a high note with Zetech striker and team captain Purity Anyetu scoring the first goal of the match in the 5th minute with midfielder Elizabeth Khisa boosting her efforts with a 15th minute goal, to give the University side an early lead in the game. Kayole Starlets Christine Ngoithi managed a goal for her team, resulting in a 1-2 result in the first half in favour of Zetech.
The second half action did not disappoint as fans were treated to an additional goal by Khisa in the 41st minute steering Zetech to a continued lead before Kayole player Foscah Nashivanda completed a header. Her efforts were commendable, paving way for her teammate Faith Atieno scoring the team’s third goal following an awarded penalty to bring the result to a competitive 3-3 total. The tide changed when Zetech captain Purity Anyetu fought for her team, securing the last goal of the game with in the 88th minute to give the students a much needed win.
Zetech football coach Bernard Kitolo lauded the team for braving their competitors and coming out on top. “We had the advantage of scoring early in the game, giving the ladies a head start. The ladies were focused, working very hard throughout the game to clinch our first win of the year.” He said, adding that the Starlets were a strong team to beat and the team is gearing for their next game against Makolanders FC.
