Zetech Titans, Sparks Impress in Weekend Tournaments

It was a smashing weekend for the Zetech University sports teams after collecting victories in their basketball and football matches. In the Kenya Basketball games, the Zetech gents’ team silenced Lions 76-55 in a heated battle played at USIU.

The Zetech Titans kicked off their victory with a 25-17 lead in the first quarter; the Lions picked up pace to secure a 14-11 temporary win over the Titans in the second quarter but succumbed to a 16 point loss in the game that ended 76-55 in favour of Zetech. In the Zetech’s game against Strathmore University, the squad won 49-41 against the opponents, with William Omboko emerging top scorer with 22 points.

Commenting on the wins, Coach Job Munene lauded the team for an impressive performance in the intense games, “We are pleased that our commitment and intense training ensured we won our weekend outings. We are working hard to maintain form and secure additional victories in upcoming games.” Munene said.

On their part, the University’s ladies team- Zetech Sparks- secured a narrow 41-39 win against Strathmore University in the KBF Women’s Premier League, in the team’s fourth game in the ongoing second leg of the season. In the first half of the game, the Strathmore side led 18-16 against Zetech; however, by the end of the game, a five point lead in the third quarter resulted in a win for Zetech, with Lucy Mbithe christened top scorer, garnering 11 points for the team.

Team Coach Maurice Obilo lauded his team for a good performance and noted that the team is working on any areas of improvement to ensure consistent wins as the season progresses.
Elsewhere in the football division two games, the Zetech Titans FC secured a 2-1 lead against Butterfly FC at a game held at the Ruiru stadium. The action packed game started with a 15th minute 1-0 scored by Butterfly. In a remarkable comeback, Zetech players Austin Ochieng and Yusuf Abdallah completed impressive goals in the 60th and 75th minutes, respectively.
