Zetech University Launches Ajira Digital Club
Zetech University is committed to participate in sustainable development in the country through the training of students to provide solutions that will grow the economy and transform the world.
In line with this objective, the Varsity launched the Zetech Ajira Digital club to empower students to become digital experts and learn to use technology to earn an income. Ajira digital is a government project recently initiated by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to bridge the gap between skills demand and lack of jobs.
More than 40,000 Kenyans already work and earn a living through various online platforms but the demand for online workers continues to grow. The low awareness levels and lack of skills to navigate the online workspace have contributed to the low uptake of online work despite this sector’s tremendous potential to address youth unemployment.
Elizabeth Muhia, Dean of Student Affairs at the University encouraged students to register to join the Club, lauding the Government for the focus on recruiting thousands of youths for online work and reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
“This digital programme is a welcome development targeted at empowering young people to build online presence and skillfully undertake various online jobs. We are recruiting students from our various Faculties to participate, build their skills and earn some money.” Elizabeth said.
University VC Prof. Njenga Munene echoed the Dean’s sentiments, appreciating the growth in digital and the vast opportunities online work presents to the youth, “The University supports the initiative to create digital work and raise the profile of online jobs as a way to provide employment. Our students will take advantage of the opportunities to secure employment and meet their basic needs.” Prof. Munene said.
Zetech students will participate in the training and benefit from the mentorship provided to enhance their skills and access online jobs; moreover, they will also be trained on how to identify and avoid scams and ascertain authentic links to relevant online jobs.
