Zetech University to award Samchi CEO Honorary Degree

Zetech University is preparing to award Samchi Group CEO Esther Muchemi with an honorary degree in Business and Entrepreneurship, christened Honoris Causa, following her enormous contributions to the Country in the areas of business, innovation, technology and leadership. The Award will be presented to her during the University 2019 graduation set for 15th November.

The University in making this award noted that Ms Muchemi is an exemplary woman who has made tremendous impact in Kenya through her business. The spirited entrepreneur is founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of the Samchi Group of Companies, a diverse Kenyan conglomerate with companies spanning telecommunications, microfinance, hospitality, real estate, restaurants and ICT. Through her innovative approach for entrepreneurship, her empire has currently employed over 1000 workers

The University Senate also recognised her efforts as a mentor and international conference speaker who has dedicated time and resources to coach young entrepreneurs and instill in them the values of diligence and integrity, as well as inspire them to build their own empires.
Commenting on the move, VC Prof Njenga Munene said, “As a distinguished business woman, accomplished accountant and auditor, Ms Muchemi’s merits in the corporate world have realised economic and social growth in Kenya and we are honoured to present her with this award.”

Impact

Ms Muchemi is also the chairperson of the Safaricom Dealers Association where she strongly advocates for integrity and ethical practices in the telecommunications industry. In December 2018, she launched her career as an author and wrote a book titled ‘Give Me My Mountain’, a compelling biography that tells her story and provides readers with guidance on becoming successful entrepreneurs. In the Foreword written by the late Bob Collymore, he highlights that the book is ‘full of homespun wisdom drawn from Esther’s years of building businesses, often against the odds in telecommunications, property, hospitality and micro-credit.’

Due to her resilience and commitment to make a difference by excelling, Esther has won a number of accolades. In 2017, she was the recipient of the 2017 Global Inspirational Women Leadership Award, awarded by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development. This was done at The 2017 South America–Africa–Middle East–Asia Women Summit, held in Dubai. The same year also saw her induction into Amazon’s 100 Global Women Leaders Hall of Fame.
We look forwarding to celebrating this outstanding business leader and entrepreneur.
