Zetech University proudly celebrates Mr. Hezbon Mureithi Waweru, a distinguished alumnus who is making waves across the continent as a passionate advocate for Pan-African unity through Kiswahili. In an exclusive interview featured in the Afrika Tuungane – United States of Africa campaign, Mr. Hezbon Mureithi Waweru, alongside Prof. Owen Ngumi, Dean of the School of Education, Arts and Social Sciences at Zetech University passionately advocated for the adoption of Kiswahili as a unifying language for the African continent.
The session, titled “Kiswahili for Unity in Africa” called on the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government petitioners to support the Afrika Tuungane petition, an initiative seeking to introduce Kiswahili as a mandatory subject from primary school to university level across the continent.
Anchored within the broader vision of a unified Africa, the conversation highlighted Kiswahili as more than just a language — it is a cultural thread that connects Africa’s rich diversity. Prof. Ngumi noted that Kiswahili is already spoken in over a dozen African nations and continues to grow in reach and relevance. He emphasized that making it a continental language would help dismantle lingering colonial linguistic divisions while promoting homegrown narratives, regional trade, and collaboration.
Zetech University remains committed to nurturing graduates who are visionary, courageous, and ready to shape the future of Africa. Mr. Waweru’s impactful advocacy, backed by the university’s academic leadership, reflects Zetech’s dedication to innovation, cultural empowerment, and transformative leadership. As the Afrika Tuungane petition gains momentum across institutions, social networks, and policy platforms, it sends a powerful message: that Africa’s unity can be built through a shared language, one that speaks not only to our minds but to our collective identity and destiny.
