Zetech University continues to excel on the global technology stage, highlighted by Sawel Kinuthia’s outstanding participation in the 2024-2025 Huawei ICT Competition. As a dedicated mentor, Samuel played a pivotal role in guiding six Kenyan students from various universities in the country through the rigorous Computing Track, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as OpenEuler, OpenGauss, and Kunpeng.
Four teams, each comprising three students, have advanced to the prestigious Global Finals set for May 2025 in Shenzhen, China. This marks the fifth time Samuel has successfully mentored students to global competitions. His exceptional commitment was further recognized when he was named the Most Valuable Instructor (MVI) in the Huawei ICT Academy program in 2024. Kinuthia’s efforts were also acknowledged by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, EBS, who honored him alongside five other distinguished instructors for their remarkable contributions to nurturing ICT talent.
Speaking at the awards ceremony held on March 24 in Nairobi, CS Ogamba emphasised the importance of inclusivity in the competition, encouraging participation from students across universities and TVET institutions nationwide. He highlighted the Huawei ICT Competition as a crucial platform for equipping young minds with technical skills and creating opportunities for future innovators.
Special appreciation goes to the Huawei ICT Academy team, led by Michael Kamau, for fostering continuous growth opportunities and strengthening the collaboration between Zetech University and Huawei Technologies.
