Zetech University recently held its inaugural International Students Luncheon, a groundbreaking event that brought together continuing and first-year international students for an afternoon of connection, inspiration, and cultural celebration. The event marked a major step forward in the University’s ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and globally enriched learning environment.
Welcoming students, or as commonly referred to at Zetech University, techizens, from various countries across Africa and beyond, the luncheon provided a platform for sharing experiences and fostering meaningful dialogue around the international student journey at Zetech University. In his remarks, Mr. John Mwai, Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, encouraged students to fully immerse themselves in campus life, highlighting the importance of participating in extracurricular activities, building networks, and embracing the diverse culture of Kenya. He noted that a fulfilling university experience extends beyond academics and is enriched through engagement with student life and community.
Ms. Elizabeth Muhia, Dean of Students, echoed this sentiment, sharing insights on how international students are supported throughout their journey. She emphasised the role of the International Students Club in easing the transition into Kenyan life and the Zetech community. The club offers an array of opportunities for students to connect and grow, including cultural showcases, orientation sessions, educational visits to embassies, and structured support around student documentation and welfare. It also plays a critical liaison role between the University and foreign embassies and high commissions.
During the luncheon, attendees engaged in an open discussion addressing core aspects of the international student experience. The conversation explored how students could better integrate into campus culture, adapt academically to a new system, and navigate immigration requirements such as student passes. The discussion also touched on future-focused topics like career pathways and opportunities available to international students during and after their studies at Zetech University.
The leadership of the International Students Club was recognised, with Anthony, the chairperson and a student from Tanzania, and Ajah, the assistant chairperson from South Sudan, commended for their active roles in creating a welcoming and well-supported environment for fellow international learners. Their efforts have strengthened peer support systems and encouraged greater participation in club activities, making a significant impact on the international student community.
Speaking at the event, Anthony affirmed the club’s mission to provide a safe and inclusive space for students far from home, where cultural pride, friendship, and support are core values. His words were a reflection of the vibrant, united, and forward-looking international student body at Zetech University.
The luncheon concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging, reinforcing Zetech University’s commitment to nurturing a global campus where all students feel seen, heard, and supported. With more initiatives like this on the horizon, Zetech University continues to position itself as a hub of multicultural excellence in higher education.
