Zetech University Vice Chancellor Professor Njenga Munene presided over the official launch of the Institute of Ageing Studies, in partnership with the Kinuthia Wamwangi Foundation, led by the CEO and HelpAge Ambassador for Older Persons in Kenya and Africa, Mr. Kinuthia Wamwangi, at the Technology Park Mang'u Campus.
The Institute of Ageing Studies is envisioned as a pioneering centre of research, policy dialogue, and community engagement dedicated to advancing the rights, welfare, and dignity of older persons.
“Older persons are the custodians of our heritage, wisdom, and values. This Institute will ensure they are not only supported but also included in national development conversations.” Mr. Kinuthia Wamwangi.
As part of the launch activities, the University, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Thika Kilimambogo team, also organised a free community medical eye check-up for members of the surrounding community, reinforcing its focus on healthy ageing and accessible healthcare.
This milestone underscores Zetech University’s commitment to driving social impact and creating inclusive spaces for all generations.
“The proportion of older people in Kenya’s population is expected to increase significantly by 2050. This demographic shift presents both challenges and opportunities, calling for deeper research, responsive policies, and innovative programmes to safeguard dignity and wellbeing in old age. The Institute of Ageing Studies therefore positions Zetech University at the forefront of shaping solutions that will impact generations to come.” Prof. Njenga Munene.
