Rebecca Kwoba, a gifted footballer and budding Electrical Engineer, has made headlines as a shining example of how sports and education can propel a young talent to global heights. She earned a sports scholarship at Zetech University and also secured a chance to play for the Harambee Starlets, a team she captained in 2023 for the World Cup qualifiers. She has secured yet another full scholarship to Alcorn State University in the United States, a testament to her passion and determination.
Her football career took off when she joined Zetech University on a sports scholarship, pursuing Electrical Engineering while playing for the Zetech Sparks women’s football club. Rebecca’s exceptional skills as a midfielder and defender earned her a place on Kenya’s women’s national team, the Harambee Starlets. She represented the Rising Starlets squad in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, where she competed against Cameroon in a thrilling third-round face-off.
Reflecting on her achievements, Rebecca expressed her gratitude for the support she received along the way. “Coming from a humble background in Western Kenya, Zetech University believed in me and gave me the platform to grow both academically and in sports. The opportunities I’ve had have shaped my career, and I am excited to begin a new chapter at Alcorn State University,” she said.
Recognising her potential, Zetech University offered her a full scholarship to further her studies in Electrical Engineering while playing for the Zetech Sparks women’s soccer team.
Zetech University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Njenga Munene, commended Rebecca for her dedication and hard work. “Rebecca’s story is a remarkable example of what young athletes can achieve when they combine talent with focus and determination. At Zetech University, we are committed to nurturing holistic growth in academics and sports, and we are proud to have been part of her journey.”
Zetech Sparks head coach, Harriet Fakhir, praised Rebecca’s contributions to the team and her unwavering work ethic. “Rebecca is a rare gem. Her leadership on the field, combined with her discipline, has made her an invaluable player. We are thrilled to see her take this next step and know she will make a significant impact just as she did here at Zetech University.”
Rebecca Kwoba’s success comes in just months after the Zetech University Sports Scholarship programme sent yet another student, Madina Okot to Mississippi State University, USA on a basketball scholarship.
With the Sports Scholarship programme, Zetech University continues to nurture budding athletes by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents in sports while also pursing their academics.
