The Zetech University Football team locked down a needed win against University of Nairobi’s Tandaza side in a heated clash during the start of the 2018 SportPesa Shield FKF tournament this past weekend. The Varsity side silenced their opponents 1-0 with a lucky 91st minute goal by Aron Omar during extra time, in the round of 64 outing.

The gents maintained pace during the intense game held at the opponent’s lower Kabete campus, to avert a penalty shootout to qualify for the next round when they will face Friendzone FC.

The Zetech Titans Coach Tom Juma lauded the team for securing a win, noting that the team rallied itself steadily to defeat Tandaza to progress to the next round, “It was a tough game given that Tandaza is a strong side, but our patience and hard work paid off to secure a late victory. Now, we are training for our upcoming match, which we hope to win.” he said.

Meanwhile, in the Universities and Colleges Football League, the Varsity’s women’s football side thrashed NYS Vocational Training Institute 3-0 while the provisional team beat Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences 3-1 with the Teams’ Coach Bernard Kitolo noting that the teams have been training intensely and approaching games tactfully to secure victories.

Basketball

In the basketball courts, the university ladies side Zetech Sparks stamped Footprints Point 49- 38, with the side’s top scorer Lucy Mbithe securing 11 points in the during the KBF premier league, while the men skinned Lions 56-53 during the action packed weekend.

Similarly, the Varsity martial arts teams emerged the overall winner in KATA and KUMITE games during the Universities, Colleges and High schools tournament held at MKU Thika grounds. This doubled their luck as they had earlier qualified for the East African games last week in the KUSA finals tournament.
